Last Day of School

Well, today was the last day of school for Nate. I have had a great time volunteering this past year. Mrs. Lake was SOOOO generous to all of her volunteers, she gave us all a beautiful poem.

Starfish

One day a woman was walking along the shore. As she looked down the beach, she saw a child moving like a dancer. She smiled to herself to think of someone who would dance to the day. So she began to walk faster to catch up. As she got closer, she saw that the child wasn't dancing, but instead he was reaching down, picking up something and very gently tossing it into the ocean.

As she got closer she called out, "Good morning! What are you doing?" The child paused, looked up and replied, "Throwing starfish in the ocean."

"I guess I should have asked, why are you throwing starfish in the ocean?"
"The sun is up and the tide is going out. The starfish won't survive on shore."

But child, don't you realize that there are miles and miles of beach
and starfish all along it. You can't possibly make a difference!"

The child listened politely. Then bent down, picked up another starfish
and threw it into the ocean, past the breaking waves and said-
"It made a difference for that one."

One person CAN make a difference!

With the poem she gave all of us a beautiful starfish necklace, as well as some notepaper, a card and a starfish(dry). I am so grateful, but it makes me feel guilty, I volunteer just to get in there and help out not for the extras. It was such a nice day to go in although a little crazy, the kids were very excited for summer. I am looking forward to it as well although I may just have to FORCE Michael to take some time off.
